Meet Harlene Bernstein

Hello, I’m Harlene Bernstein! Growing up in Washington, DC, I had the incredible opportunity to work with Project Head Start during its inaugural year. My passion for early childhood development was further nurtured at Syracuse University, where I majored in social work and studied under the esteemed Dr. Bettye Caldwell. Her influence on the development of Head Start and the importance of early childhood stimulation left a lasting impact on me. I went on to earn my master’s degree in Special Education, Early Childhood from George Washington University, and later consulted for the DC Public School system.

For the past 47 years, I’ve enjoyed a rewarding career as a real estate broker, much of that time running my own firm. My empathy and dedication have always been my guiding principles, helping me find the perfect homes for my clients many of whom become my friends. Outside of real estate, I express my creativity through acrylic painting, which brings me to a loving and serene place.

Another significant part of my life has been my 22 years in AA. As a sponsor, I’ve had the privilege of counseling many women, guiding them intuitively through their journeys to sobriety and a heartfelt, often joyful and purposeful life. On a personal note, I am the proud mother of two phenomenal young men who fill my life with laughter and dance, and I’m excited to soon become a grandmother.
